The same game, two generations

One of our supporters Professor Jerry Saltzman recently shared an amazing story with us.

“As a new instructor teaching an undergraduate course in Supply Chain Management, I was happy to see the syllabus contained the Beer Game. With a long career in SCM, I had participated in several trainings which included a version of this game to simulate the impact of the “bullwhip effect” through a supply network.

“Shortly after bringing my son to grad school to start his MBA and being locked down by COVID-19, I met with the Fathomd team to learn how their version of the Beer Game worked. It was an ideal fit for my class which would be totally remote.

“My class played the game while on a Zoom call. Once students logged in, the simulation did the rest of the work, setting up 4-step supply chain teams, processing the data, managing the rounds of play, and reporting results. I simply sat back and watched the students play. It was instructive hearing the students’ comments and reactions to the results of their actions after each round.

“A couple of weeks after my class completed the simulation, my son mentioned his MBA class ran a supply chain simulation. It was the Fathomd Beer Game! Two different universities, two different grade levels, two different perspectives, two different generations… the same game. A classic.”
